I love pictures, because they can help us remember the past and relive what has gone by.

This was really fun. Northeast Archaeology Research Center was doing a dig on CVPS land next to Otter Creek in Middlebury and discovered artifacts from 4500-6000 years ago.  On September 4, 2010 they had a rare open house for the public to tour the dig site. It was truly amazing to see such ancient artifacts discovered only a short 20 minute walk from home.

In early August I discovered a hidden park in Middlebury called “Otter View Park” on the road to Weybridge. Full of birds and wildflowers, it was a magical place. A week or so later I decided to take my camera with me as I took an early morning walk to the park.  Things look so different at 6:00 AM than they do in the afternoon.

I spent July exploring the backwoods of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. It is so peaceful being in nature, away from cars and the city,  and observing all the beauty there.

2010 was my first winter here in Vermont.  I’m sure it becomes commonplace after a while, but for me, the snow and ice were something new and beautiful.

And then there was my less than one month stay in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. To get the full story on all of this, you can read my blog.

In August 2008 I spent a long weekend at the cabin at Shotpouch, a retreat for educators in the Coastal Range between Corvallis and Newport in Oregon. In the middle of the woods, with almost no human contact, it was a great place to think, read, and get away from civilization. It was just what I needed.

For several years, starting in 2003, my son and I spent each summer studying Spanish at La Unión in Antigua, Guatemala. In 2005 we brought our first group of teachers there to learn Spanish. These pictures are from the 2006 group.  Guatemala is such a special place - the colors on the fabrics are so bright and beautiful and the people are very friendly. It’s a great place to learn the language and learn about the Mayan culture.
